My move to New York has had me thinking about shoes that will keep my feet dry and warm without being obliterated by the sludge and snow that I’ll encounter on my walk to work each day. Frankly however, the issue seems equally relevant for those in Queensland at the moment as the rain insists on making itself uncomfortably at home. There really is nothing worse than wet socks, shoes and feet and in weather like this it is difficult to avoid it unless you stay indoors or can by some odd chance – fly.

Colour blocking has always been as big a spring/summer trend as it is a breath of fresh air after months of all those grey and black layers. Remarkably, whilst being one of the most dynamic trends around it still manages to be almost 100% fool proof in its styling criteria and with designers flooding the runways with colour this summer it is the perfect time to adopt colour-blocking into your summer outfit selection. The opening of Gucci’s spring/summer 2010 collection really made its mark in Milan with Raquel Zimmermann wearing an orange blazer, violet top, green pants and a gold belt.

It’s time to say “sayonara” to the compulsory night time heel because flat shoes are fast becoming acceptable for those evening events that can often be followed by a trip to the chemist for a packet of Band-Aids. This love-hate relationship between beauty and the pain is becoming more and more distant, and this season designers are opting for a bond between comfort and style by replacing the 6 inch heel with the flat to result in equally chic, elegant and polished looks.
