Colour blocking has always been as big a spring/summer trend as it is a breath of fresh air after months of all those grey and black layers. Remarkably, whilst being one of the most dynamic trends around it still manages to be almost 100% fool proof in its styling criteria and with designers flooding the runways with colour this summer it is the perfect time to adopt colour-blocking into your summer outfit selection. The opening of Gucci’s spring/summer 2010 collection really made its mark in Milan with Raquel Zimmermann wearing an orange blazer, violet top, green pants and a gold belt.

Since posting the blog on Caramel leather jackets last week, I have not been able to rid the thought of leather from my mind! It’s a fabric that has been traditionally left for the winter months, but this year it will be sticking around for Spring/Summer too! It’s a truly new trend that is seeing summer garments – bustiers, shirts, skirts, tanks and mini dresses - made of leather. With the material being a statement in itself, too much accessorising is superfluous, and the minimal, clean and simple style should just be embraced.

When it comes to deciding on an accessory to complete your outfit, the turban is a sure way to turn even the simplest of outfits into a chic, sleek and stylish Spring look. It doesn’t yet seem to be the first thought that comes to everyone’s mind when considering a hair accessory for the day or night, but this trend is appearing in editorials and runway collections galore and I think soon it will (and should) become a staple accessory in every women’s wardrobes. When talking about clothes, a lot of people gasp at the mention of prints as if they are scary, intimidating and far too attention-grabbing to even consider wearing. Now although I have generalised this mentality, and there are people who - sometimes to a fault - are not scared at all (perhaps it is this sort of person that makes the others gasp at the thought in the first place), prints are something you should definitely not shy away from this season!
