Preparing for a fashionable Fall!

By cecilycecily | January 07, 2012

It might seem ludicrous to think about Fall trends while we are amidst the semi-blistering Aussie Summer – however I assure you, winter clothes will be in stores soon enough and you must be prepared.

The Fall 2011 shows revived some of my favourite trends in an exceptionally innovative – dare I say – fashion.

Of these trends, I’m going to share with you my favourites, and deliver a heads up on what to look for when you hit the stores this winter!

Kinder-threads

By cecilycecily | January 17, 2011

Everyone perceives the task of dressing children differently. It can be a total novelty, an absolute chore or a downright challenge! Truth is – kids are cute, and they really can get away with wearing anything. One thing that I feel quite strongly about however is dressing kids in clothing appropriate for their age. This issue seems to have increased in relevance (particularly for girls) over the last decade. My opinion - dress little girls like little girls! They’ll grow up so quickly anyway so while they’re young avoid the adolescent inspired get-up!

Reigning Wellies!

By cecilycecily | January 10, 2011

My move to New York has had me thinking about shoes that will keep my feet dry and warm without being obliterated by the sludge and snow that I’ll encounter on my walk to work each day. Frankly however, the issue seems equally relevant for those in Queensland at the moment as the rain insists on making itself uncomfortably at home. There really is nothing worse than wet socks, shoes and feet and in weather like this it is difficult to avoid it unless you stay indoors or can by some odd chance – fly.

Professional pizazz!

By cecilycecily | January 03, 2011

The end of year summer festivities have more or less drawn to a close, which means that whether you like it or not, you’ll soon be heading back to the office. Although your work attire should reflect professionalism and competence, getting dressed for the office does not mean you have to leave your personal style at home. In fact a little creative edge to your outfit can do your professional image the world of good!

Party dressing with a difference!

By cecilycecily | December 21, 2010

With summer and the festive season upon us I see it only fit that we talk party dresses. Trend wise it’s been a strong and relatively coherent year, with party dresses in particular receiving constant injections of lace, cut-outs, and sheer fabrics.

The year is moving on however and it’s time to turn over a new leaf and embrace the summer weather (albeit in a temperamental and irritable form). But be creative! A cocktail dress with matching heels, clutch and jewelry just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Bag bothers!

By cecilycecily | November 23, 2010

Contrary to clothes, shoes and accessories, bags are often left out when one thinks of new trends, styles or outfits. But why? Women would be lost without bags! They are indispensable to our every day (and night) lives, and have the role of carrying our entire lives with us when we’re on the move.

Lock. Colour. Block.

By cecilycecily | November 15, 2010

Colour blocking has always been as big a spring/summer trend as it is a breath of fresh air after months of all those grey and black layers. Remarkably, whilst being one of the most dynamic trends around it still manages to be almost 100% fool proof in its styling criteria and with designers flooding the runways with colour this summer it is the perfect time to adopt colour-blocking into your summer outfit selection. The opening of Gucci’s spring/summer 2010 collection really made its mark in Milan with Raquel Zimmermann wearing an orange blazer, violet top, green pants and a gold belt.

New swim trends to try - for your guy!

By cecilycecily | November 01, 2010

Fashion seems to have turned rather a blind eye to men’s swimwear in the last few decades, and while there have been a few styles floating around every now and then, in general, the evolution of swimwear for males has been slow and relatively ignored. Once upon a time, male swimwear was purely about practicality - being the right materials and designs for swimming in water – now however, it has fashion as its influence, and is injected each season with creativity and style.

Style for the sea

By cecilycecily | October 25, 2010

If swimwear was ever to be more stylish than clothing, it would be this season! Now is not the time to settle for basic bikini combinations, and instead you should be bathing in one of the trends that are taking a strong stance over swimwear this season.

Sound, Sun & Style!

By cecilycecily | October 18, 2010

What to wear to the next music festival always has you thinking for weeks in advance. Despite these long and supposedly ‘thought out’ decision periods however, festival goers seem to be coming up with very repetitive and predictable outfit choices. There are a few items in particular that come under my “festival fashion predictability” column. These include, denim cut-offs, tie-die, fringing and fluro (yes some people still think it’s a great idea).
