The great debate between too little or too much often comes into question with the art if selecting accessories. There is a general rule of thumb, which we like to follow with regards to putting a finishing touch on your outfit. If you are choosing to wear a statement necklace then opt for subtle earrings or if you decide on a chandelier earring ensure that they remain the focus, and only add additional pieces that will complement what you have chosen.
When following this simple rule you are actually allowing the piece you have chosen to “speak” and this will create a much stronger statement. Accessories have the power to add polish to the simplest of outfits and allow you to show some of your personality.
If you are putting together a day look you may like to play with using several styles and mix together texture and shape. For example an oversized ring in gold or silver would complement three or five wooden bangles and a string of beads. Or a head scarf and cuff would be a great addition to a summer dress and wide leather belt.
With evening wear, as mentioned it is advisable to choose one standout piece and allow that item to be the focus. So with a cocktail dress a beautiful cuff and stud earring would be an excellent choice. Or if you are wearing an evening gown you may like to focus on a cocktail ring and a complementary necklace.
Accessories are not just limited to jewelry, but also include hats, scarfs, bags and sunglasses. So next time you open your closet why not play with the idea of introducing one of the following to create a whole new look.
