Brooch romance

An accessory that hasn’t quite made it into the mainstream fashion yet is the brooch. Used throughout history to fasten and adorn clothing, the word itself seems to automatically bring to mind thoughts of vintage stores, grandma’s jewellery box, scarves and woollen jumpers. It is this connotation in my opinion that may be preventing the brooch from being fastened to more shirts, jumpers and jackets this season.
Don’t for one minute think that without a vintage inspired personal style the brooch is off limits! It is true, a brooch goes beautifully with a vintage jumper or coat, but it can compliment, lift and sharpen so many other styles as well!
The key is to firstly rid your mind of the brooch’s ‘Nana’ association, and then find the right one to suit your style. If you’re not too sure, a silver brooch on a plain black or white shirt, jumper or blazer can add the perfect amount of ‘bling’ to your outfit, and a medallion/chain styled brooch is a simple way of incorporating a slick military style. The brooch doesn’t have to be worn on the top left hand side of your top either; depending on its design try wearing it on the bottom right or left corner of the front or back of your shirt/jumper or jacket! Lots of jewelry designers are now exploring the world of brooches and as a result, brooch designs are becoming more and more innovative and an amazing way to display your personality and sense of style.
Have a look at DISCEMORI for some brilliant taxidermy brooches. The mouse brooch featured above has emerald eyes and a sterling silver tail! Now who said brooches were reserved for the quaint or elderly?
