When it comes to deciding on an accessory to complete your outfit, the turban is a sure way to turn even the simplest of outfits into a chic, sleek and stylish Spring look. It doesn’t yet seem to be the first thought that comes to everyone’s mind when considering a hair accessory for the day or night, but this trend is appearing in editorials and runway collections galore and I think soon it will (and should) become a staple accessory in every women’s wardrobes. Miuccia Prada’s S/S 2007 collection is most likely responsible for fashion’s latest adoption of the turban. Lending a stylish and Western approach to the otherwise traditional Eastern headwear, saw turbans make an appearance in the fashion accessory scene.
2010 should see a revival of this trend, and its versatility is unlike any other headpiece. No matter what the season, time of day, or occasion, the turban can be incorporated into ANY outfit to make a statement. An otherwise cliché and sometimes boring outfit choice, like the denim cut-off with white tee, can be immediately lifted with a colourful turban, headband turban or wrapped head piece. The same headpiece can be carried through to a dressier evening occasion, and is the perfect accessory to brighten an all black outfit. I recommend wearing with your hair down or in a messy bun/top knot - but feel free to experiment!
